A super cold clear start.

For 11/24/09: For Today: High pressure has set up in the west and the clear skies overnight have allowed lows to drop to the lowest we have seen all season and the struggle to rebound from this will be our dominant weather feature for today. Look for mostly sunny skies to dominate with just some high altitude clouds polluting other wise blue skies. We will likely continue to see some gusting winds so wear plenty of layers and expect cooler conditions than it will look.

Overnight lows checked in at -7 degrees for Crested Butte this morning with Gunnison a couple degrees warmer at -5 but still the coldest we have seen this year under a valley inversion. Daytime highs will rebound under the sunny skies but starting below 0, they will have a hard time topping yesterday’s highs in the 20’s. Tonight’s lows should stay just to the positive  side of 0 but that will require enough wind today to scour this inversion.

High pressure will continue to dominate through Thanksgiving with the colder air cycling clear of the area and allowing for much milder daytime highs but continued cold clear nights. Pacific moisture is starting to stack in the northwest and will threaten some snow for the weekend but just how much and where are still a question.
