A candy coating.
For 11/23/09: For Today: As expected this latest round slipped a little further south bringing some colder temperatures but the longevity will be limited as the brunt has already cycled past. We can expect snow showers dwindling through the morning with remnants continuing to hold on the divide until later in the day. Gusting winds will keep things moving quickly so be sure to layer up and expect colder conditions than we have been seeing.
Overnight lows were moderated by the cloud cover with Crested Butte bottoming out at 17 degrees with Gunnison a little warmer at 21 degrees. We will rebound slowly with the mix of conditions with the cold front from the north holding us to the high 20’s for the north end of the valley while Gunnison climbs to the mid to low 30’s. Look for very cold conditions in the single digits overnight as skies clear and the snow cover allows for some significant radiational cooling.
High pressure will be moving back into the area for the rest of the week with mostly sunny conditions on tap right up to Thanksgiving. For today you are going to want to expect cold wind chill values and blowing snow so be prepared as you head out.
