Clear and cold early.
For 11/18/09: For Today: The trough that we were expecting out of the northwest through tonight has been reduced to just some cloud cover that will hold mostly to the north. The resulting northern movement will keep us in mostly sunny skies through today with just some light high altitude cloud cover that will be thinner the further south you head in the valley. Look for some gusting winds increasing with this cloud cover but it looks like we will have another pretty mild mostly sunny day on tap.
Overnight lows have not been mild with the clear skies overnight allowing for significant radiational cooling with Crested Butte reporting 8 degrees this morning and Gunnison dropping a degree lower to 7 degrees. We will see daytime highs rebounding quickly with the ridges and higher elevations warming faster but with a consistent high in the high 30’s to low 40’s valley wide. Look for a slightly warmer night tonight with the potential for the cloud cover but not by much.
A generally dry pattern continues to hold in the west with weaker pacific waves starting to appear in the models but there is little agreement on the timing and trajectory. It’s looking like we will see a swing at some snow at the north end of the valley this weekend but stay tuned for updates.
