A day of transition as the window closes.
For 11/12/09: For Today: We have entered our day of transition with this warm southern flow lifting into the area. There is a lack of moisture that will limit this to heavy cloud cover and isolated showers but high winds will build through the afternoon which will mark the beginning of a bigger change. Look for the partly sunny start to close in quickly so layer up and expect changes through the afternoon.
Overnight lows were moderated by the cloud cover at the north end of the valley with Crested Butte reporting 30 degrees and Gunnison dipping lower under clearer skies to 23 degrees. Daytime highs will remain mild under the southwestern flow with the mid 40’s expected at the north end of the valley while the south end will hit the low 50’s. Overnight lows will be mild again tonight but the cold pool to the north is pushing south for Friday.
The continued warmer southern flow will offer a rain snow mix through the front end of this storm but the cold front and northern moisture will effect some significant changes through the next 24 hours. Models are differing on the timing of this progression of the southern move in this system but the next few days will present the chance of significant snowfall and colder temperatures.
