High clouds and big changes brewing.
For 11/11/09: For Today: It’s official, this window is closing fast and we will see a pretty steady stream of moisture settling into the west through tonight that will continue through the weekend. The milder southwestern flow is feeding high clouds this morning and it looks impressive on the radar but there is very little moisture available. Look for cloud cover thickening through the day with winds blowing up and some scattered snow showers possible over the higher terrain.
Overnight lows were right about as expected with Crested Butte reporting 19 degrees and Gunnison holding right in step at 18 degrees. Daytime highs will still climb even with the mostly cloudy conditions with this milder southwestern flow hitting 50 for CB and the mid to high 50’s for the south end of the valley. Overnight lows will be a little warmer tonight thanks to the heavy cloud cover with 22 degrees a likely median valley wide.
While the southern flow is what’s looking the most threatening this morning, it’s the northern troughs and cold front posturing in the northwest that will feed us the wintry conditions. Look for a slow wind up on Thursday with heavy snow starting overnight and lasting into Saturday. Big changes are brewing so get things buttoned up today.
