A beautiful start to the weekend.

For 10/31/09: For Today: Happy Halloween! High pressure has setup overnight and the blue skies we are seeing this morning are just the front end of a long string of sunny days in the forecast. Temperatures will be warming slowly but sunshine will be the dominant weather feature through the better part of the extended forecast. Expect some gusting terrain driven winds while this snow is melting and partly cloudy conditions building into the afternoons but that’s about it for variables.

Overnight lows were already showing signs of this warming trend with 14 degrees being reported valley wide this morning. We will see a fairly quick rebound with the clear skies but the snow cover will limit temperatures to 40 degrees for Crested Butte and just slightly higher for Gunnison. Overnight lows will be about the same for tonight bottoming out around 17 degrees for all elevations.

The gusting winds we will see through the afternoon will likely mix the valley inversions clear bringing all elevations into the warmer trend but expect them to take longer to come around. For tonight you will want to pack plenty of layers for the kids as you head out trick or treating because temperatures will drop quickly as the sun sets. A clear night will mean fast radiational cooling so be prepared.
