Cold but changes on the way.
For 10/29/09: For Today: The brunt of this system is now past us we will see some remnants offering a mix of sun and clouds with continued snow showers possible over the higher terrain. Warmer air from the west will start to fill into the area through tomorrow but the snow on the ground will slow the warming process. Skies will continue to clear into tomorrow but a weak system to the south could bring more cloud cover and scattered snow showers for Friday.
Overnight lows plummeted under the partly clear skies with the snow on the ground allowing for lots of radiational cooling with Crested Butte reporting 6 degrees this morning while Gunnison remained warmer at 15 degrees. Daytime highs will have a hard time rebounding with just the spotty sunshine and we won’t likely see much more than 20 degrees for Crested Butte and maybe 30 for Gunnison. As skies clear tonight we will see the coldest night of the year so far with lows dropping to around 0 for all elevations.
The worst of this storm is past us but we will continue to see cold air holding in the valleys and scattered snow showers on the higher terrain through early Friday. This weekend will bring the beginning of the true rebound to more seasonal temperatures and sunny skies. Until then be prepared for more cold temperatures and another day of snow threatening.
