Another wintry day in the forecast.

For 10/28/09: For Today: The heavy snow that was expected for our area has arrived but it is looping well to the south through Utah before lifting to the north over Telluride, Delta and Grand Junction. As a result we have been pushed to the sidelines getting some trickle down moisture but probably nothing like the areas in northern Colorado. We can expect more of the same for today with snow in varied degrees expected throughout the day as well as high gusting winds.

Temperatures overnight held with the colder trend with Crested Butte reporting 21 degrees while Gunnison stayed warmer only hitting 30 degrees this morning. Today’s highs will stay cold with heavy cloud cover and snow in the forecast hovering in the 30’s for all elevations. Tonight’s lows will stay steady and cold as this cold front holds as another day of snowy weather sets up.

This pattern is a good news bad news scenario as it means that we won’t end up with a base on the high peaks that will just rot out next week when the milder temperatures return but it’s also a trend that won’t serve us well once winter actually starts. We are a long way from any big predictions but maybe a clue for the weather geeks out there. Stay bundled up today as we see another round of wintry weather with the added bonus of gusting winds driving temperatures even lower.
