A storm brewing.

For 10/27/09: For Today: The front end of this big winter storm is continuing the slow approach with regional radar showing a solid line of moisture pushing through western Colorado that will be on us by the early afternoon. The winds associated with this front are proving to be slightly lower than initially forecast but this will keep this storm from moving through too quickly. The dynamics that are currently setting up will still have this mostly clear of the area by Thursday night but it could be a rough ride to get there.

Overnight lows were cold again with the partly clear skies with Crested Butte reporting 21 degrees and Gunnison 23 degrees. Don’t look for a speedy rebound as the cloud cover sets up early likely limiting us to the mid 30’s as a high valley wide. Tonight’s lows will be further moderated by heavy cloud cover and snow but look for another low in the mid to low 20’s for all elevations.

The National Weather Service keeps ramping up their report on this system with wrap around moisture expected to continue to offer snow into Thursday. The snow, wind and cold temperatures will need to be accounted for as you make plans this week. This will be our first taste of winter with the potential for heavy snow at all elevations.
