Another wintry morning.

For 10/25/09: For Today: This flow of moisture out of the northwest has fed just enough moisture over the divide to fuel some valley wide snows overnight and more is likely to continue through the day. An associated cold front will offer consistently colder temperatures through today and into the middle of the week also driving healthier snow production out of what would otherwise be low producing weak systems. The result will bring more snow for today with the snow line slowly moving up in elevation opening the door for a sloppy mix at the valley floors.

Overnight lows were good evidence of the colder northern influence with Crested Butte reporting 22 degrees while Gunnison held at 31 degrees. Daytime highs will be slow to rebound at the north end of the valley with the solid cloud cover keeping temperatures right around the high to mid 30’s while Gunnison will pop to the higher 40’s with some spotty sunshine. Look for skies to clear through the early hours tomorrow which will open the door for an even colder overnight low dropping likely to the teens with the snow covered valleys and cold front.

This will be our trend moving into the week with glancing blows from northern waves continuing to offer snow and the cold front pushing temperatures up to 20 degrees below normal. With these sloppy conditions use caution when driving and make sure you are prepared if you are headed over any of the higher passes for snow packed roads and low visibility.
