A partly sunny start but changes brewing.

For 10/20/09: For Today: The low pressure trough is currently holding to our west with this flow of northern moisture looping around to the south before pushing north through western Utah. So far this trajectory has kept the system clear of our area but regional radar is showing organized moisture pooling to the north and west that will cycle into our area by early afternoon. The southern loop has kept these storms fairly moderate so snow levels will remain high at least for today.

Overnight lows were moderated by the light cloud cover with Crested Butte reaching 31 degree this morning while Gunnison remained a degree warmer at 32 degrees. Daytime highs will hold at 50 degrees for the north end of the valley while Gunnison climbs to the higher 50’s while the warmer southern pool of air lingers. By tonight we will get a taste of the colder northern flow but cloud cover and scattered snow showers will insulate against temperatures dropping below the high 20’s.

Forecasts are pushing this next round of moisture further and further away from our area and it looks like the wetter conditions will be limited to this afternoon and tomorrow before skies clear again for the end of the week. Pack layers as you head out today and be prepared for changes.
