Sunny today but changes on the way.
For 10/12/09: For Today: Look for mostly sunny skies to dominate through today as the high pressure ridge that formed yesterday slowly moves though to the east. High wind gusts will be the indicator of the beginning of the change and will be on us by early in the afternoon. A mix of sun and clouds will develop by this evening as we start to see a much more active pattern build for the middle of the week.
Overnight lows were mixed again last night with Crested Butte reporting 35 degrees while Gunnison dipped to 28 degrees. We will rebound quickly under sunny skies today with highs topping out in the 50’s for the higher elevations while Gunnison and the lower valleys push just above 60. Look for cloud cover building overnight to insulate lows bottoming out in the low 30’s valley wide.
Cloud cover today will be in the form of the classic mare’s tails and fish scales variety found on the front end of a change in the pattern with sunnier conditions to be found the further south you head. By Tuesday we will see the first in a series of waves with snow likely on the higher ridges and rain for the lower valleys. This will start to clear by Wednesday but expect some variables this week and get out and enjoy the sunshine for today.
