The cold front is on us.
For 9/21/09: Different models are continuing to offer different solutions for this week but the cold front we have been watching from the north will definitely be on us. The brunt of the associated moisture will be holding to the north but we will likely see convective showers that may drop as a mix of rain and snow on the higher peaks. For today the high winds will be the most evident component as this low blows into the area with fast moving thundershowers and sustained winds around 20mph increasing on the higher elevations.
Overnight lows were cold with the clearer skies with 32 degrees being reported valley wide. Daytime highs will be a shock topping out in the 40’s or low 50’s with winds driving the windchill even lower. Tonight will bring colder overnight lows dipping to the 20’s for all elevations and continued moisture could mean another round of white peaks in the morning.
This cold front will dictate the weather through the week with how much moisture we may see remaining in question. There is a real possibility that this will remain an upslope event on the other side of the divide but we will still see the cold windier fringe. Be prepared as you head out today and expect some variable conditions for most of the week.
