Vinotok and a taste of fall.
For 9/18/09: The big low pressure system that has been holding this moisture in the area has mostly cleared to the south and east but it has also created a void where remnants of western moisture have been able to linger and thrive. Models continue to back away from the clearing trend that was initially forecast for the weekend and call for more afternoon thundershowers as dynamics fall into place. Thundershowers will be more isolated but the threat will continue with a taste of fall in the forecast for early next week.
Overnight lows were cold under the mostly clear conditions with Crested Butte reporting 33 degrees and Gunnison 35 degrees. We will rebound to the 60’s and low 70’s depending on elevation before we see any real heavy cloud cover. Overnight lows will continue to drop through the weekend and into next week.
Thundershowers will be isolated all through the weekend with the divide and higher terrain offering the most active conditions before cells drop to the lower valleys. Expect colder temperatures building by Sunday night and Monday as a cold front dips into our area pushing daytime highs to a much more autumn feel. Bring plenty of layers if you are headed to the Vinotok festivities tonight.
