Clear early with just some light high clouds.
For 9/17/09: The brunt of the organized moisture that has been feeding these stronger storms has now dropped to our south and west and will keep heading into New Mexico by the end of the day. The result will be drier conditions building into the area but residual moisture will continue to present the threat of scattered thundershowers building with the heat of the day. These will be much more isolated than what we have been seeing and will clear by early in the evening.
Overnight lows were cold but held above the freezing mark with Crested Butte reporting 38 degrees and Gunnison 40 degrees. Daytime highs will warm quickly under the sunny skies but hold right around 66 degrees for Crested Butte and 70 for Gunnison. Look for colder temperatures overnight tonight with the drier air and clearer skies.
Today’s thundershowers will be of the more hit and miss type and will move through quickly without the moisture necessary for wetting rains but it will be worth being prepared. The moisture to fuel convective activity will dry out through the weekend but we will still see the threat of some scattered systems into Sunday.
