Clouds and thunderheads building early.
For 9/15/09: We are continuing to see moisture recirculating around the area thanks to the northern ridge and this morning regional radar is showing a strong line of organized moisture lifting through to our west over Grand Junction. The current trajectory keeps it clear of our area but it is an indication of just how much moisture there is in the region. A look at local web cams shows thunderheads already building over Blue Mesa which will mean much more activity earlier today.
Overnight lows were cold again as skies stayed clear for most of the night with Crested Butte reporting 35 degrees and Gunnison 37 degrees. Daytime should look a lot like yesterday but may be held lower by the clouds keeping the higher elevations in the low 60’s and Gunnison right around 70. Look for another overnight low lingering in the 30’s and low 40’s but the cloud cover will be the key.
Today and tomorrow look to be the big days for this moisture before it clears the area. Expect thundershowers building early and moving slowly into the lower elevations. These will have good wetting potential so be prepared.
