Fog early but sunshine breaking through.

For 9/14/09: The fog holding to the lower valleys will burn off fast with mostly sunny conditions expected to hold through the morning. This rain overnight was the final addition to the fully saturated atmosphere and we will see convective activity all over southern Colorado that will feed heavier storms through the afternoon and possibly overnight. Definitely plan projects and adventures today with the expectation of thunder cells in the afternoon.

Overnight lows dropped again even with the cloud cover and rain with Crested Butte reporting 36 degrees and Gunnison hit 38 degrees. Daytime highs will climb to 65 degrees for Crested Butte with Gunnison flirting with the low 70’s. The threat of more nocturnal showers tonight could keep overnight lows warmer but with this combination of cold lows and moisture it will only be a matter of time before we wake up to a candy coating on the higher peaks.

We are going to see an active start to the week as moisture continues to converge on our area with good dynamics for heavier rains from slow moving systems. It’s looking like by Thursday we will dry out again but active conditions are likely until then. Be prepared as you head out and pack layers.
