A mix of clouds and sun early.
For 9/12/09: The western weather pattern is continuing to be unsettled as this cold front to the north causes moisture to hold in our area. The result has been consistently high precipitable water levels that will fuel scattered thundershowers through the day today. Scattered cloud cover and readings on the regional radar early are a good indication that we could see some active weather through the day especially over the higher terrain.
Overnight lows were cold even with the scattered cloud cover with Crested Butte reporting 34 degrees and 36 degrees in Gunnison. Daytime highs will climb to the mid 60’s for the north end of the valley with Gunnison just breaking into the 70’s. Overnight lows will be moderated by heavier cloud cover likely holding to the low 40’s valley wide.
The moisture we are seeing trapped over our area will continue to provide fuel for thunder cells. This convective activity will start over the higher terrain but will eventually spill into the lower valleys. Plan your adventures with escapability in mind and expect that a good shot of sunshine will have a thundershower following not far behind.
