A sunny start to Labor Day.

For 9/7/09: The brunt of this southern wave has cycled clear of the area and is being replaced by a drier air mass out of the west. We can expect remnants of this latest round to fuel convective thundershowers through this afternoon with the higher terrain favored but the rest of the day should remain mostly sunny.

Clearer conditions overnight allowed for colder lows with both Crested Butte and Gunnison reporting 38 degrees this morning. Daytime highs will warm thanks to the sunnier skies with Crested butte expected to hit 68 degrees while Gunnison and the south end of the valley enjoy the low 70’s. Look for another colder overnight low with all elevations dropping to the 30’s.

This week is shaping up to be a lot nicer as high pressure sets back up over the west and we see the return of warm and mostly sunny conditions. Today will be our first taste of the drier conditions but expect remnants of the wetter system this weekend to fuel thundershowers you will want to be prepared for. These will remain hit or miss and move pretty quickly building first on the higher terrain and then slipping into the lower valleys.
