Sunny early but changes brewing.
For 9/5/09: We are enjoying the last gasps of this high pressure this morning but regional radar is showing a pretty impressive shot of southern moisture lifting into southern Colorado this morning. We will see areas of heavy cloud cover building over the higher terrain first with strong thunder cells following in the afternoon that will stick with us overnight. These storms will be hit or miss early but if one cues us up expect wetting rains and even some hail.
Overnight lows were cold under the clear skies with Crested Butte reporting 33 degrees while Gunnison dropped to 37 degrees. Daytime highs will rebound quickly with the clear skies early but look for cloud cover to form before we break out of the high 60’s for the north end of the valley and the low 70’s for Gunnison. Cloud cover holding overnight will keep temperatures warmer in the 40’s.
Get your adventures done early today or definitely plan with escapability in mind. Strong thunder cells building on the higher terrain before settling into the lower valleys will create some wet conditions with nocturnal thundershowers likely continuing overnight. Pack layers and be prepared.
