Blue skies but still hazy.
For 9/3/09: We have seen no real change to the pattern holding over our area with the high pressure ridge expected to hold to our north through the end of the week. The result is a pool of air over our area with some southern moisture and smoke mixed together which will continue to recycle around and fuel thunder cells through the afternoons into Friday. Winds will slow down and this will offer the possibility of slower moving cells capable of wetting rains.
Overnight lows were cold under the clearer skies with Crested Butte reporting 34 degrees and Gunnison dropped to 36 degrees. Daytime highs will continue to hover in the mid 70’s for all elevations with the timing of the cloud cover in the afternoons the big moderating factor. Look for another cold overnight low with the clearer conditions tonight in the mid 30’s valley wide.
Models are continuing to offer the same differences into the weekend but we will see a change to a southern flow through Saturday that will draw subtropical moisture up into our area for Sunday. As it stands, it looks like we will start to dry out into Labor Day but expect plenty of available moisture to fuel convective activity and plan accordingly.
