More haze but mostly sunny conditions expected.
For 9/2/09: The current flow of the western weather pattern is drawing weak pacific systems and smoke from the west into our area. The result has been the hazy conditions with just enough moisture to fuel scattered thundershowers holding to the higher terrain. We will see more of these weaker systems squeezing by the high pressure ridge with a slight increase in the activity expected through the afternoons.
Overnight lows were fairly cold even with the high clouds with Crested Butte reporting 37 degrees and 39 degrees in Gunnison. Daytime highs will hover just a degree or two above seasonal norms with the mid 70’s expected for all elevations. Look for more partly clear skies setting up overnight with more lows hovering in the high 30’s.
Shifting systems in the west through the end of the week with have us in an unorganized and hard to predict pattern but the variables are pretty weak so afternoon thundershowers will be the extent of the threat. By this weekend models are showing a surge of monsoonal moisture from the south that will coincide with the passage of the remnants of Hurricane Jimena and this could make for some very wet conditions for Labor Day.
