high clouds and wetter conditions.

For 8/30/09: The pacific moisture we have been watching is moving through our area this morning with cloud cover expected in various degrees all day. Regional radar is showing a steady stream of moisture to the north and south with a dry slot sitting just below us. This will mean the potential for rain and thundershowers off and on for the north end of the valley and higher terrain while Gunnison will likely stay drier.

Overnight lows were moderated by the cloud cover with Crested Butte dropping to 44 degrees with Gunnison holding right in step. Daytime highs are expected to remain warm in the mid to high 70’s depending on elevation but this will ultimately depend on how much moisture we see. Skies are slated to clear again overnight so look for colder temperatures dropping back to the 30’s.

As this wave of pacific moisture cycles clear of the area we will see thundershowers for the higher terrain and windy conditions building through tomorrow. The western pattern is shifting and it look like the next week will be drier but we’ll have to see what shapes up. For today you should plan your adventures with escapability in mind and be prepared.
