A beautiful sunny morning.

For 8/27/09: High pressure has set up in the west and we will enjoy sunny skies with warm daytime temperatures climbing to 3-5 degrees above our seasonal norms. This will produce some convective activity over the highest terrain but little to no moisture should actually hit the ground.

High pressure and the clear night have brought us another very cold overnight low holding just on the warmer side of freezing with Crested Butte reporting 34 degrees and Gunnison 36 degrees. Look for a quick rebound under these sunny skies with daytime highs climbing to the high 70’s for Crested Butte and breaking through to the low 80’s for Gunnison. Overnight lows will probably climb by a degree but look for more cold lows in the 30’s valley wide.

Sunny high pressure will dominate through the end of the week but these warm temperatures will also activate any remaining moisture in the atmosphere. Expect cloud cover and very isolated showers mostly holding on the divide and higher terrain but stay prepared. We have a couple beautiful days on tap so get outside.
