Clear early but wet remnants lingering.
For 8/25/09: The brunt of this latest surge has cycled off to the east but remnants will keep the atmosphere saturated and, as the temperatures warm today, we will see bigger storm cells building on the higher terrain. Look for active conditions potentially starting earlier in the day with this mix extending through the evening with nocturnal storms possible tonight.
Overnight lows were mild again with Crested Butte reporting 40 degrees and Gunnison 41 degrees. Daytime highs will be a few degrees warmer at all elevations today which will fuel more convective activity. Look for cooler conditions overnight dipping below the 40 degree mark again for most elevations.
High pressure will continue to build into the west but it will require a couple days for the remnants from this latest round of southern moisture to clear the area. Expect bigger and slower moving cells through this afternoon with wetting rains possible into the evening. Pack plenty of layers on all adventures and plan with escapability in mind.
