Some light cloud cover early and the monsoon lurking.
For 8/23/09: The flow has switched to the south with a surge of monsoonal moisture lifting through southern Utah and western Colorado. Regional radar is showing a strong pocket in the Grand Junction area with precipitable water levels climbing to above an inch throughout southwestern Colorado. The super warm temperatures we are seeing will combine with this available moisture and produce some strong cells through the heat of the day with some hail likely.
Overnight lows were warmer again last night with the cloud cover with Crested Butte reporting 42 degrees and Gunnison 45 degrees. Daytime highs will climb early but the light loud cover hanging on will keep temperatures a couple degrees cooler than yesterday at all elevations. Skies are expected to clear overnight but lows will likely hover right around the 40 degree mark.
A mix of sun and clouds through the better part of the day may restrict the convective activity for a while but expect gusting winds and fast moving cells by the afternoon. Plan activities with escapability in mind and pack layers just in case.
