Record high temperatures and sunny skies.
For 8/22/09: The high pressure has moved into Texas and opened the door for the flow of southern moisture lifting into the southwest. We will see moisture levels rising steadily throughout the day that will work off of the record high temperatures expected throughout southern Colorado firing lots of convective activity through this afternoon with storms likely lingering overnight.
Overnight lows stayed comparably moderate compared to what we have been seeing with Crested Butte reporting 39 degrees and Gunnison slipping a little lower to 38 degrees. We will see record highs throughout the southwest today with the lower valleys to our west climbing to the triple digits. Look for the potential for the 80’s at all elevations today with nocturnal storms keeping overnight lows mild tonight in the 40’s.
This monsoonal shot from the south will interact with the super warm temperatures we are expecting and create some strong thunder cells through the afternoons this weekend. Today will be the build up with tomorrow offering stronger results but be prepared for high gusting winds and strong fast moving cells to threaten through the weekend. Get an early start on projects and adventures and be prepared.
