A final day of this clear high pressure.
For 8/21/09: We are continuing to see the march of high pressure across the west but the plume of subtropical moisture is looming and building strength to the south. We will see another day of very warm temperatures and clear sunny skies with just some isolated cloud cover building over the higher terrain through the heat of the day. We will start to see a shift in the pattern through tomorrow that will bring some changes through the extended forecast.
Overnight lows were upside down with Crested Butte reporting 36 degrees this morning while Gunnison dropped to 34 degrees. Daytime highs will hold in the high 70’s for the north end of the valley but Gunnison will break into the 80’s. Look for warmer overnight lows tonight but continuing to hold in the 30’s valley wide.
As the pattern moves around to the south the plume building down there will lift into the southwest through Saturday. We will see this as afternoon thundershowers unless another component develops to act as a catalyst to spur heavier rain but respect the potential into next week. Today will be the final day of this pure high pressure so get outside and take advantage.
