High pressure setting up.

For 8/19/09: The high winds that we saw through yesterday pushed the tail end of that weaker northern system clear of the area and we will see clear high pressure dominating the entire western US through the rest of the week. The flow will hold out of the northwest but we can expect sunny skies with temperatures climbing to above the seasonal norms through the end of the week and the weekend.

Overnight lows dropped under the clear skies after the cooler day yesterday with Crested Butte hitting 29 degrees and Gunnison reporting 30 degrees. This trend of cold clear nights will continue this week so make plans to cover any fragile flowers you want to keep around. Daytime highs will climb to above normal temperatures starting Friday with today offering the high 60’s for Crested Butte and the 70’s for Gunnison.

Clear and sunny will be the name of the game through the end of the week with this dry high pressure setting up in the west. Models are showing a switch to a southern flow opening the door for subtropical moisture through the beginning of next week so make some plans and get out and enjoy these incredible conditions.
