Cloud cover from the north.
For 8/17/09: The gusting winds that we saw through yesterday afternoon pushed this weak northern system further south than had been forecast and the result is the cloud cover we are seeing early. There is very little moisture associated with this current flow and we won’t likely see any moisture actually hitting the ground until later this afternoon.
Overnight lows reached surprisingly low considering the heavy cloud cover with Crested Butte reporting 33 degrees and Gunnison 34 degrees again this morning. Daytime temperatures will be slow to rebound with the cloud cover so expect a colder morning with highs eventually hitting the high 60’s and low 70’s. Overnight lows should be a little warmer tonight with the general warming trend but you may want to continue to cover any delicate plants.
This final shot of northern moisture will hold mostly to the other side of the divide but expect partly to mostly cloudy conditions all day with convective thundershowers likely this afternoon. By tomorrow we will see the much drier western flow take over with mostly sunny skies and warmer temperatures holding through the end of the week.
