Cold and clear to start but warming for the week.
For 8/17/09: Dry air from the west has set up over our area and we have seen precipitable water levels drop significantly. This will mean a dry day with some cloud cover popping up through the afternoon but any storms will offer wind and little to no rain. A weak system out of the north will offer a quick shot of moisture through tomorrow night but skies will remain sunny through the rest of the week with the drier southwestern flow dominating.
Overnight lows dropped under the clear skies as the tail of this cold front clears the area with Crested Butte reaching 31 degrees and Gunnison falling right into step at 32 degrees. Daytime highs will rebound with the 70’s expected valley wide and a couple degree warm up expected everyday through the middle of the week. Cold nights will continue to be a reality through this week with lows hovering right around the freezing mark or just above.
The weak wave cycling though on Tuesday afternoon is really the only variable to the sunny skies through the week. Another shift by the weekend is threatening a monsoonal shot from the south so take advantage of these sunny skies this week. As usual, pack layers and be prepared but get outside.
