Another sunny morning but southern moisture is on the move.

For 8/12/09: The high pressure ridge is on the move today with the expected shuffle in the weather pattern drawing southern moisture into the area. Skies will remain mostly sunny today but expect an increase in cloud cover and gusting winds through the afternoon. By tomorrow we will see the return of the convective thundershowers with precipitable water levels increasing steadily into Friday offering more fuel for the convective process into the weekend.

Overnight lows continued to be cold with Crested Butte dropping to 34 degrees with Gunnison not far behind at 36 degrees. Daytime highs will be warm again in the 70’s but look for increased cloud cover to keep us a degree or two cooler every day through the end of the week. Overnight lows will probably be pretty cold again tonight with skies staying clear but will warm back to seasonal norms by Thursday night.

The high pressure holiday is coming to an end and the low pressure trough to our north is already drawing that plume of subtropical moisture up into southern Colorado. The San Juans will get it by this afternoon and we will see it by Thursday with thundershowers threatening all the way through the weekend. Put the layers back in your bag and plan to get an early start on your adventures.
