Another cold clear night and a sunny day on tap.
For 8/11/09: High pressure is continuing to hold but we are headed into the final day of the pure clear skies as we continue to see a trough approaching from the northwest that will reshuffle the pattern through the end of the week and into the weekend. Wednesday will offer the first real cloud cover with Thursday kicking off the new stream of convective activity but mostly just for the higher terrain.
Overnight lows stayed cold as the last of this northern cold front clears the area with Crested Butte hovering just above the freezing mark at 33 degrees while Gunnison dropped to 34 degrees. We will rebound quickly under the clear skies with highs climbing a couple degrees again at all elevations but holding to the high 70’s valley wide. Look for more cold temperatures tonight but a couple degrees warmer than we have been seeing.
Our weather is looking more active through the end of the week as this northern trough works as a seesaw in the west drawing the plume of southern moisture north through Thursday and Friday. Nothing organized will make it into our area but precipitable water levels increase to fuel convective activity through the afternoons. Enjoy these last couple days and get outside.
