High pressure and hot temps return.

For 8/3/09: The latest swap in the flow of the western weather pattern has cued up a southern flow with a little moisture and significantly warmer temperature. The combination will fire the same kind of convective activity that we saw though Sunday afternoon forming on the higher terrain before finding the lower valleys. These will be fast moving with clear skies returning for the evening.

Overnight lows were cold with the clear skies with Crested Butte reporting 38 degrees while Gunnison held to 44 degrees. Daytime highs will climb throughout the week starting today with Crested Butte topping out in the high 70’s while Gunnison reaches the low 80’s. Look for another cold clear night.

The big variables in the western weather pattern for this week will be caused by the warmer than normal highs interacting with moisture from the north and south. There is nothing organized in the forecast so moisture will remain hit or miss and generally not worth changing plans over. Get an early start on your outdoor adventures and pack some layers.
