A sunny morning as high pressure sets up.

For 7/31/09: High pressure is setting up in the west and flushing the residual moisture clear of the area. Regional radar is showing a line of thundershowers stretching from the north to south moving in our direction that will offer some variables through the middle of the day. The drier conditions really set up for Saturday with the moisture to fuel convective showers pinching off leaving us with mostly sunny conditions for the weekend.

Overnight lows dropped under clear skies with Crested Butte reporting 38 degrees and Gunnison hit 40 degrees. Daytime highs will get a little warmer than yesterday but the cloud cover moving in  through the middle of the day will keep Crested Butte right around 70 degrees while Gunnison climbs to the high 70’s. Look for another cold clear night.

The drier air moving in tomorrow will limit the convective potential to the higher terrain and divide with the lower valleys expected to stay dry. This trend will likely continue through the weekend but we are headed for some changes with that subtropical plume lurking to the south so take advantage of the clear conditions.
