Mostly sunny skies early but cool.

For 7/28/09: The northwest flow has continued to bring us drier conditions with just the same remnants from this weekend’s rains fueling afternoon thundershowers that will build on the higher terrain. This dry flow will continue to sift into the area gradually driving the threat of the convective showers clear of the area by the weekend. Until then these storms will remain hit or miss with no real soakers in the cue.

Overnight lows were cool again but stayed slightly warmer then the last couple nights dropping to 40 degrees in Crested Butte and 42 degrees in Gunnison. Daytime highs will just reach 70 degrees for Crested Butte with Gunnison pushing to 77 degrees. Look for another colder overnight low as this cold front from the north continues to hold in the northwest flow.

The plume of subtropical moisture is continuing to boil in the south and a shift in the western pattern could drop us into the monsoonal flow that has been unseasonable late. Look for mostly sunny conditions to hold with the isolated thundershowers for this week but models are showing a potential shift into next week that could mean some significant changes. Get outside and enjoy these clear skies.
