A sunny start after a rainy Sunday.
For 7/27/09: The shift that we saw in the weather pattern through the end of last week started a cascade which lead to the subtropical plume lifting to the west and ultimately cycling through our area yesterday. The result was a shot of moisture that pushed July from a dry month back to the more normal levels. Yet another shift overnight has returned us to the drier northwest flow with nothing but remnants offering fuel for afternoon thundershowers this week.
Overnight lows were much colder than we saw through the rest of the weekend with Crested Butte dropping to 38 degrees under clear skies while Gunnison stayed a bit warmer at 46 degrees. Daytime highs will hold in the mid 70’s for Crested Butte while Gunnison reaches the high 70’s but a cold front from the north will keep highs feeling cooler. Look for another cold clear night especially at the higher elevations.
Ample moisture left over from the big storms yesterday will be available to fuel convective thundershowers through this afternoon. Cooler temperatures will moderate their development but look for the classic big popcorn cloud formations building on the divide with the heat of the day. Pack layers as you head out and be prepared.
