High clouds early indicating a change.
For 7/25/09: The changes we were expecting in the flow of the western weather pattern have started to take effect and the high pressure ridge has shifted allowing the moisture to the west to move in our direction. Thundershowers over western Colorado are already showing on the regional radar and these will eventually find our area. Cooler temperatures will moderate the convective activity but we can expect much more active conditions through this afternoon.
Overnight lows were a good indicator of this change with Crested Butte reporting a super warm low of 46 degrees while Gunnison held right at 48 degrees. Daytime highs will be 5-10 degrees cooler today with the north end of the valley topping out in the low 70’s while Gunnison hovers right around 80 degrees. Look for another moderate overnight low with thundershowers possible.
This latest shift in the pattern is introducing a number of different components from the north and the south and conditions could be pretty variable into the beginning of next week. You will want to expect increased thundershowers with some strong cells likely and definitely be prepared as you head out.
