High pressure holding.

For 7/23/09: High pressure to the south and the ridge over our area are continuing to hold with just a little moisture managing to lift into southern Colorado. This will mean convective thundershowers over the San Juans but very little making it any further to the north. Looks like we will enjoy another dry day with just a little wind and isolated cloud cover this afternoon.

Overnight lows have continued to drop under the colder northern flow with Crested Butte dropping to 38 degrees overnight and Gunnison bottoming out at 44 degrees. Daytime highs will hit the mid 70’s for the higher elevations while the south end of the valley crosses the 80 degree mark. Look for more colder overnight lows while these clear conditions hold.

The western weather pattern will start to shift later in the week but there is very little by way of major changes with the dominant flow expected to stay from the northwest while this high pressure holds in the southwest. The subtropical plume is starting to boil in the south so it is only a matter of time before it finds it’s way north so get outside and take advantage of these beautiful conditions.
