Mostly sunny skies early.
For 7/21/09: The same pattern that we saw dominate through yesterday is holding on for today with some moisture holding under the ridge that will fuel more fast moving convective thunder cells through the afternoon. The combination of the northwestern flow and gusting winds will keep temperatures a few degrees cooler which will limit the convective action to hit or miss systems but expect the possibility of some strong cells that you will want to be prepared for by the afternoon.
Overnight lows were moderated again by the cloud cover with Crested Butte reporting 42 degrees this morning and Gunnison reporting 45 degrees. Daytime highs will be cooler than yesterday topping out at 72 degrees for Crested Butte while Gunnison holds just short of the 80 degree mark at 79 degrees. Skies should be clearer tonight allowing for cooler lows but they should hover right around 40 valley wide.
The weather pattern is continuing to hold under the northwestern influence but moisture from the south has slipped around the edges. Look for this to fuel thundershowers over the higher terrain through today before we see another shift that will return us to the drier and warmer flow later in the week.
