More sun but high clouds are a sign of change.

For 7/19/09: Moisture has been slowly creeping back into the area by slipping around the high pressure ridge and the classic mare’s tails and fish scales we are seeing early are an indication of the change. Regional radar is showing moisture to the north on the other side of the divide early and precipitable water levels are increasing steadily. Look for light high altitude cloud cover early to become scattered thundershowers over the higher terrain with the same high gusting winds we saw yesterday keeping everything moving quickly.

Overnight lows dropped under the clear skies with Crested Butte reporting 39 degrees this morning while Gunnison stayed warmer at 44 degrees. Daytime highs will climb right up to the 80 degree mark again for the north end of the valley while Gunnison tops out around 84 degrees. Overnight lows will be moderated by the cloud cover with all elevations likely holding to the 40’s or above.

Multiple components coming together in our area will mean the potential for stronger convective thundershowers through this afternoon and continuing into the evening. As you head out be sure to keep an eye on these developments especially if you are headed to the higher terrain and be prepared for all conditions
