A sunny start but changes in the west.

For 7/11/09: We are seeing the surge in southern moisture but it has lifted to the north further to our west into southern Utah. Right now it is lifting clear to the other side of the divide which will keep us clearer longer but regional radar is showing moisture over Green River which will eventually make it towards our area. Just how much we can expect is still in the works but a basic increase in precipitable water levels will fuel convective showers that you will need to prepare for.

Overnight lows were warmer than recent nights thanks to the cloud cover with Crested Butte reporting 41 degrees while Gunnison stayed at 44 degrees. Daytime highs will hit the high 70’s for Crested Butte while Gunnison and the lower valleys break the 80 degree mark. Lows tonight will likely hold in the 40’s again with more nocturnal storms possible from systems building to the west.

Little has changed in the pattern that has drawn the wetter forecast but the components we need to see come together for the really wet results are still well spread out. Expect convective activity building with the heat of the day with the divide and higher terrain likely seeing this moisture building to our west by late afternoon. We could get lucky and stay on the drier side of this but you will want to be prepared as you head out.
