High cloud cover with the southern plume lurking.
For 7/10/09: The plume of subtropical moisture is continuing to lift further to the north with high altitude cloud cove riding the same ridge in from the southwest. Increasing moisture will mean more fuel for convective thundershowers building with the heat of the day for today continuing through the weekend.
The cloud cover that we saw build in overnight has held the overnight lows a bit higher than we have been seeing with Crested Butte reporting 39 degrees this morning and Gunnison 42 degrees. Daytime highs will continue to be warm even with the cloud cover with highs likely holding in the high 70’s for the north end of the valley while Gunnison pushes into the 80’s. These warm temperatures will continue to hold into the weekend with the lower valleys to our west climbing to the 90’s. Overnight lows will stay in the 40’s with the combination of cloud cover and warm conditions.
The southern flow of moisture is continuing to climb higher into our area and the combination of warmer temperatures and more available moisture will mean stronger thunder cells. These will be mostly limited to the afternoons but hot conditions to the west could build storms that won’t find us until after dark. Get an early start on all your adventures and be prepared.
