For 7/9/09: The high pressure pocket that has kept us in the clear and sunny conditions has moved back down to Texas and moisture lifting into the area from the south will start to dominate the pattern. So far this is looking pretty weak and is progressing slower than expected but the light high altitude cloud cover early indicates changes. Look for enough moisture today to fire some isolated thunder cells later in the day but these will be few and far between and moving fast.
Overnight lows dropped under the clear skies again hitting 35 degrees for Crested Butte while Gunnison stayed a couple degrees warmer at 41 degrees. Daytime highs will be moderated a bit by the cloud cover but will still hit the high 70’s for the north end of the valley while Gunnison climbs into the low 80’s. Overnight lows tonight should be more mild but it all depends on this stalled cloud cover.
Expect mostly sunny skies early to give way to more cloud cover and isolated thundershowers. Gusting winds will build into the afternoon just like yesterday and this will continue to move the pattern. The surge in the southern plume is still holding to our south but this will bring more active weather as it arrives so take advantage of the dry conditions while they last.
