Sunny and dry.

For 7/7/09: The drying trend is continuing with clear and sunny conditions this morning giving way to some cloud cover by the afternoon but the moisture to fuel any convective activity has been greatly diminished. That said, there is always the possibility of a very scattered thunder cell building on the higher terrain so stay prepared but today should just offer some cloud cover and no moisture with even drier conditions building into tomorrow.

Overnight lows dropped under the clear skies overnight with Crested Butte reporting 37 degrees this morning and Gunnison just holding at 40 degrees. Daytime highs will climb to the 70’s for the higher elevations while Gunnison and the lower valleys push towards 80 degrees. Expect another cold clear night but tomorrow will bring even warmer highs as we finally get a taste of summer.

This dry trend will hold through the middle of the week but we are starting to see that subtropical plume lurking in the south again. The high pressure that is giving us the sunny skies will move east into Texas and that could push enough moisture back up into our area to restart the convective process. Take advantage of these sunny days but, as always, be smart and stay prepared.
