A beautiful start to the 4th.

For 7/4/09: Happy 4th of July! We have seen the drier shift in the pattern take place overnight and mostly sunny skies will dominate through the better part of the day. The atmosphere remains pretty saturated and we can expect the classic big popcorn storm formations building with the heat of the day. The convective activity will produce scattered thundershowers that you will want to be prepared for.

Overnight lows dipped to 40 degrees for Crested Butte while Gunnison held a couple degrees warmer at 43 degrees. We are rebounding quickly under the sunny skies early and will hit the 70’s at all elevations. Tonight will be clear with overnight lows expected to drop back to the high 30’s for the higher elevations and hold right around 40 for Gunnison and the lower valleys.

We are seeing a much drier forecast for the weekend extending into next week but residual moisture will fuel convective thundershowers through the afternoons. These will be scattered and hit or miss but be prepared because everyone will likely see some rain at some point today.
