A cooler start but more sunshine.

For 6/29/09: The high pressure that has set up in the west will hold strong through the beginning of the week with warm temperatures and sunny skies. We will continue to see enough moisture to fuel scattered afternoon thundershowers but these will be fewer and further between as the week progresses.

Clear skies again overnight allowed for another colder low with Crested Butte reporting 37 degrees this morning while Gunnison stayed in the 40’s at 42 degrees. Today’s highs will push into the 70’s for all elevations with Gunnison and the lower valleys crossing the 80’s for this week.

The pattern will be dominated by this high pressure ridge through the middle of the week but it will push past us with some changes likely before the weekend. At this point the long term forecast is still calling for decreased moisture and mostly sunny skies but take advantage of the beautiful conditions now and get outside. Expect the same thundershowers building through the heat of the day but these won’t be worth planning around just being prepared for.
