A last gasp from the southern plume.

For 6/26/09: The brunt of this latest round of subtropical moisture has passed us but regional radar is still showing a final shot of moisture lifting through Montrose and Grand Junction. This looks like it could easily miss us to the west but will likely slide down the divide offering the potential for some faster moving strong thunder cells building on the divide and dipping to the lower valleys. Precipitable water levels are also at a high for the season and this will mean plenty of fuel for convective activity.

We saw another night of incredibly warm overnight lows with Crested Butte reporting 48 degrees again and Gunnison only a degree warmer at 49 degrees. Temperatures will be cooler today with highs holding right on the 70 degree mark for the north end of the valley while Gunnison gets to the high 70’s. Clearer skies and drier conditions for tonight will mean the return of cooler overnight lows dipping back to the high 30’s.

The southern plume of moisture lifting out of Mexico has almost finally passed us but today will offer a final shot at some heavy rains and thundershowers. Storms should be faster moving which will limit the soaking but be prepared as you head out. Look for drier and sunnier conditions starting Saturday and continuing through the weekend.
