A warm morning with heavy cloud cover.

For 6/25/09:The flow of moisture lifting into our area from the southwest is still on the move with The National Weather Service calling for slow moving systems with the potential for heavy rain. Regional radar early doesn’t support the more dire aspects of the forecast but precipitable water levels are continuing to rise. This combined with the warmer temperatures we are seeing will make for prime convective potential through this afternoon.

The cloud cover that we saw build overnight has insulated the low temperatures with Crested Butte dropping to just 48 degrees while Gunnison was even warmer at 51 degrees. The thicker cloud cover we are seeing early will mean a slow rebound but look for highs climbing to the high 60’s and 70’s again valley wide.

The increase in available moisture will work off of the mild temperatures today with thundershowers likely building on the higher terrain early and strong slow moving cells will threaten into the afternoon. Definitely be prepared as you head out today and consider making plans based on escapability if these stronger storms do find us.
