A little cloud cover early but still beautiful.
For 6/23/09: After a solid day of high pressure conditions we are seeing a more complicated pattern develop again in the west. Moisture pushing north out of Mexico will threaten to shift from it’s current trajectory to our east to more of a westerly flow that will bring it to our area. This moisture lacks any kind of organization that will really threaten us with big storms but the combination of the warmer temperatures and increased moisture will mean convective thundershowers building through the heat of the day.
The warm temperatures yesterday fed warmer overnight lows with Crested Butte reporting 36 degrees while Gunnison stayed a bit warmer at 39 degrees. We will see another warm high today with the 70’s expected at all elevations but some light cloud cover early will moderate highs into the afternoon. Temperatures will seesaw through the week but the 70’s appear to be a realistic mark for most elevations into the weekend.
The surge of moisture lifting into our area through today will stick with us through the middle of the week offering fuel for convective thunder cells that will follow the classic afternoon pattern. Make sure to pack layers on any adventures and stay prepared or all conditions with an eye on the higher terrain for fast moving thundershowers.
